Saturday, November 4th, marked the celebration of One Valley’s Harvest Celebration at the Carver Garden from 11 am to 2 pm. The turnout was great, the weather was gorgeous, the food was great, and the entertainment was delightful. Following are several photos of the garden taken during our setup inside the garden and on a portion of 6th Street.
Emma Todoroff, Virginia Cooperative Extension, had a display of children's books, a Storybook Walk activity, and general food and nutrition educational information to distribute to our guests.
The garden was decorated with corn shocks, flowers, fall squash, and other late season produce that was later given away to everyone who attended.
Entertainment was provided by a number of guest artists. TJ did a poetry reading and played flute. Katie, Joy and Mo performed a capello. The Humblebees, three young dancers, performed under the direction of Amazetta. Maji provided some additional children’s activities and sidewalk chart art. And, you could get your picture taken in a seasonal harvest setting. We were also entertained through the end of our celebration through our after party cleanup by a very enthusiastic drum circle.
The food was provided by One Valley directors, as well as volunteers and neighbors. We had squash cookies, vegetarian chili, kale quiche, pumpkin delight, butternut puree, pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, and hot mulled apple cider, along with ice cream provided by Freedom First’s Scoops ice cream truck!
We hope everyone enjoyed the festivities as much as we did!
Thank you each and everyone for making it a beautiful celebration . Thank you Sister Sharon for The Humble Bees.
