08/07/23: This morning, the “Take Root” students –Nazaire, Kusha, and Dexter - started by collecting a variety of rocks, roots and trash from the newly tilled areas, prepared additional beds - raking and smoothing, stapling landscape fabric, and burning holes in the fabric for planting; transplanted about 200 cabbage, kale, and collard plants; then laid out irrigation lines, and sprayed surround on the new plants. Shawn and Amazetta did the lion’s share of working with the students while Gene ran around prepping materials.
Meanwhile over at the Carver Garden, Amazetta and a host of volunteers are harvesting the last of the cabbage and fairy eggplants, tomatoes and peppers, and trying to rein in the morning glories and various and assorted weeds.
