03/15/26: Last Saturday, we began planting some of the cooler weather crops by direct seeding at both the Carver Garden and at the garden at 8th & Gilmer. These included carrots, beets, mustard, spinach, radishes, turnips, and Swiss chard.

Coming up next Saturday, March 21st, we will be conducting the first of our 2026 quarterly Adopt-A-Street community clean-ups in a 5-block area surrounding both of our community gardens. We would love to have you join us. We’ll meet at the Carver Garden, corner of 6th St & Loudon Ave NW at 9:00 am.
Then on the following Saturday, March 28th, we invite our community to come join us for a Spring Planting Day for our first round of planting of transplants that have been incubating at the VCE office since early February, and are looking good. These include lettuce, kohlrabi, cabbage, and kale. We will be planting at both gardens that morning starting at 9:00 am.

The next day, Sunday, March 29th, our friends at Lick Run Farm will be holding their Spring Social - Easter Egg Hunt at Lick Run Farm, on 1626 10th St. NW, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.
Now that the weather is warming up, One Valley will be holding regular volunteer work days at both gardens on Saturday mornings every week, starting at 9:00 am to noon. Come join us, get your hands dirty, and meet a few of your neighbors!
This past year, One Valley has been partnering with CommUNITY ARTSreach and their Shining Stars Montessori Child Day Center at the Villa Heights Community Center (2750 Hoover Ave, NW) in starting a small garden and conducting related educational activities one morning a week. A community celebration, the Community Tree Planting Day, will be held there on Saturday, April 4th, starting at 1:00 pm, (which is after our regular volunteer work sessions at our two community gardens).
Happy spring! We hope to see you at one of these events, and “Be of good cheer”!
