Life began anew at the One Valley, Inc. gardens for 2024, starting on Saturday, February 24th. A crew of hardy volunteers began cleaning raised beds, clearing old tomato vines and corn stalks and chopping them up to start a new compost pile. The bird netting was cleared off of the blackberry bushes and initial clearing of dead canes and undergrowth began. The raised beds were also prepped for new plantings.
Meanwhile, over at the 8th & Gilmer garden, holes were burned in rows of landscape-fabric covered in-ground beds, and our first transplants of the season went intop t he ground, including broccoli, kale, collards, cabbage, and swiss chard. Sugar snap peas were also direct seeded into one of the beds and then recovered with the landscape fabric until they germinate.
