This past month was a time to start putting our community gardens in hibernation mode. This entailed clearing and composting the old vegetable plants, cleaning and repairing tools, reorganizing our storage spaces, and repairing rotted lumber in the raised beds, amongst other tasks.
The unseasonably warm weather in November continued to keep part of the garden producing. While all of the root vegetables – beets, turnips, carrots, and radishes – have been harvested; the kale, fairytale eggplant, italian peppers, and even some cherry tomatoes continued to produce until our first real cold snap the last couple of days in November.
Although work at the gardens has stopped for the year, please come join us for our quarterly Adopt-A-Street clean-up in the 5-block area containing both of our community gardens. We’ll meet this coming Saturday, December 7th at 10:00 am at the Carver Garden. We hope to see you then.
