On Saturday, May 11th, Veronica Lawrence led a workshop about using the right kitchenware to help make cooking fun and easy.
The harvesting of salad greens is in full swing, with swiss chard, bok choi, collards, kale, and a variety of lettuces in full swing.
Additionally, at the Carver Garden, fruit is beginning to ripen. The two peach trees are overloaded with fruit, although we have had to thin the fruit to save several of the branches which have split from the weight, and they will need more time to ripen. The bush cherries are also abundant and available for picking. We hope you will come visit and take home some of the produce, as well as volunteer to work in the garden, if you have some time.
Continuing in our Saturday morning Gardening Seminar Series, we have the following upcoming presentations scheduled:
June 22th: "Food Preservation" - Connie Crawford and Pat Hill will talk about how to freeze and can produce to extend your access to garden veggies.
July 13th: "Cloning Plants" - Logan Houze will present some cloning techniques and advantages over sowing seeds.
July 27th: “Cooking with Fresh Produce” – Veronica Lawrence and Deneen Adams will talk about the joy of food, one of the basic necessities of life.
August 10th: "Preparing Warm Tomato Salad" - Betty Shideler will go through the steps of making a warm tomato salad, while speaking about the history of the tomato, and providing some general tips about them.
