New Prickly Pear Border!

08/22/22: Today we planted prickly pear pads around the exterior of the garden fence. They will eventually grow to form a prickly deterrent to various critters…and, as a bonus, their pads and fruit (nopales) are both edible.

Later that afternoon, a group of youth from the Landsdowne community visited the garden to transplant napa cabbage and a variety of lettuces that had been planted from seed at a class at the new Envision center.

08/27/22: Saturday morning work continues at the garden, including harvesting tomatoes, squash and berries, while performing maintenance weeding, and removing tomato hornworms. An attempt to keep the deer from eating the sweet potato leaves by dangling CDs around the plot appears to have worked (at least so far).
